Gregoire Hitting Chicagos Streets
December 1, 2000 | 12:00 A.M. EST
That’s not stopping Stephan Gregoire, though.
Gregoire will pilot his No. 7 Dick Simon Racing car north up Michigan Avenue on Tuesday as part of a ceremony recognizing the launch of Indy 2K Club of Chicago, an organization designed to bring motorsports excitement to the Chicago business community. Part of Indy 2K’s offerings will be promotional opportunities at the inaugural Indy Racing Northern Light Series race at Chicagoland Speedway on Sept. 2.
Gregoire will begin his Windy City tour at the intersection of East Wacker Drive and Michigan Avenue at 12:15 p.m. He’ll head north across the Chicago River and end at the Hotel Inter-Continental at 505 N. Michigan Ave. There, Gregoire and team owner Dick Simon will meet the press and sign autographs for fans.
Gregoire has been with the IRNLS since the all-oval racing series began in 1996. He’s competed in 41 of 43 races, including five Indianapolis 500s. He has a top finish of second at Pikes Peak in 1997. In 2000, he recorded five top-10 finishes on the way to 14th in the season standings.
The Chicago appearance will be Gregoire’s second promotional run in the off-season. On Nov. 5 he ran demonstration laps at Phoenix International Raceway before the NASCAR Winston Cup race there. That run was designed to introduce NASCAR fans to Indy-style racing and promote the IRNLS’s season-opening race there on March 18.
