Future Of Joliet Track To Be Revealed

CHICAGO -- Raceway Associates, organizers of Route 66 Raceway in Joliet, Ill., will make an announcement Monday, May 8, regarding its 2001 schedule, new name for the track and corporate ticket program.

The Navy Pier Grand Ballroom, in downtown Chicago, will be the site of the announcement. Speculation is that officials from the NASCAR Winston Cup Series and Indy Racing Northern Light Series will add the Joliet track to their schedules.

Executives of the sanctioning bodies and drivers will be on hand to discuss bringing auto racing to the third-largest market in the country. The metro Chicago area has a population of over eight million.

Raceway Associates expects construction of the track facilities to be completed by spring of 2001. The company has received letters of intent to enter into negotiation from NASCAR and IRNLS.
