Joining the team in late-2006, Pumpelly has partnered with the team for three full seasons, and brings with him a resumé that includes six wins in Grand-American competition, including a victory at the Rolex 24 Hours At Daytona. Recognized as a valuable asset not only for his ability behind the wheel, but also his vast experience and enthusiasm as an instructor and leader in TRG's driver development program, the Georgia-resident will play a major role in the team's 2010 plans.
"I've known Spencer for a very long time now and he's always impressed me," stated Kevin Buckler, team owner of TRG. "Spencer's a guy who knows how to win and he is brutally fast, but equally important he's great with our developing drivers and our well rounded motorsports programs. He's very insightful when giving advice and going over data, and he has an incredibly positive and encouraging attitude. We've had a great working relationship for the last three years, and I'm really looking forward to a strong 2010. He is part of our inner team as well as a good friend."
For Pumpelly, the continuation of his career with TRG is a welcome one.
"I've really enjoyed the last three years with Kevin and all the guys," stated Pumpelly. "I feel like I have a real home here, and it's extremely satisfying to play such a large role in their driver development program."
Starting with Daytona, Spencer will already be pulling double-duty, campaigning in both the Grand-American Continental Challenge Series with series newcomer Steve Miller, as well as the Rolex 24 at Daytona in TRG's No. 67.
Looking ahead, the combination of Spencer Pumpelly and Andy Lally on TRG's professional driver roster makes the team one of the most sought after in the paddock.
"The ability to retain the services of guys like Andy and Spencer makes our team one of the top contenders in both series next year," Buckler stated. "It's a tough year for everyone but we've been lucky enough to have built a really strong house for ourselves, and I look forward to creating a strong program for anyone who wants to become a part of it."
TRG was founded in 1993 and has been competing at the top level of motor racing ever since. The team has the most wins of any team in the Grand-Am Rolex Series with 26, including the 2005 and 2006Rolex Series GT championship trophy to go along with wins at the Rolex 24 at Daytona and the 24 Hours of Le Mans.
