JOLIET, Ill. – Josh Richards took the pole for Saturday’s ARCA Series Messina Wildlife Animal Stopper 150 at Chicagoland Speedway.
Richards, who carries the nickname “Kid Rocket” around the dirt late model racing world, turned a lap of 177.509 mph to take the top spot for Saturday afternoon’s race at the 1.5-mile speedway.
"It's a thrill," said Richards, who is trying to make the transition from dirt racing to paved stock cars this year. "The track was a little like a dirt track with how slick it was from the heat. But the race should be fun and we have a good starting spot."
Tim George, Kyle Fowler, Hal Martin and Ty Dillon rounded out the first five qualifiers.
Matt Merrell, Chris Buescher, Grant Enfinger, Matt Lofton and Frank Kimmel completed the top 10.
A field of 34 cars will start tonight's race which will be run prior to the STP 300 Nationwide Series race.
