This success has Mitchell on the doorstep of a breakthrough opportunity. Cunningham Motorsports has tabbed the Tallahassee, Fla. native to drive the No. 4 Ergon Dodge for three ARCA RE/MAX Series events this season. Cunningham Motorsports fields Dodge Chargers for the Dodge Motorsports Development team.
"This is a dream opportunity and I plan to make the most of it," said Mitchell. "When you show up at the racetrack you always look to see what times the No. 4 car is running. It's like a barometer to gauge how good your car is because it's always fast. They are just a solid team from top to bottom."
Mitchell also brings with him a sponsorship from Ergon, Inc. The Asphalt and Emulsions Division of Ergon, Inc. provided the product for the repaving of Talladega Superspeedway, among other racetracks around the country. They have sponsored Mitchell's ARCA RE/MAX Series and NASCAR Busch Series entries during the 2007 season.
"Every bit of success I have had this season I owe to Ergon," sounded Mitchell. "They gave me the opportunity to compete at some of the highest levels of racing in this country. I'm really excited to bring them with me to Cunningham Motorsports. I want nothing more than to get Ergon to victory lane and I think we can do that here."
Cunningham Motorsports owner Kerry Scherer had taken notice of Mitchell's successful racing career. When the opportunity came to put Mitchell in his own car, Scherer jumped at the chance.
"I've been following Marc for a couple of years," stated Scherer. "Finishing second at Daytona at the beginning of the year was really very impressive. It's a wonderful opportunity to have Marc drive the No. 4 Dodge Motorsports Dodge for Cunningham Motorsports this season."
Mitchell's first race in the No. 4 Ergon Dodge will be the Toyota ARCA 150 at the Nashville Superspeedway on August 11th.
