More TV For ARCA

There will be more exposure for the 50th season of ARCA RE/MAX competition on television next year. The Toledo, Ohio-based series announced a new television deal with Speed Channel and Fox Sports Network on Saturday at the series' season-ending banquet.

The package calls for 10 ARCA races to be shown live on Speed Channel in 2002. An additional event will air by tape delay on the cable station while four other tape-delayed races will be shown on the Fox Sports Network.

"We're extremely excited about bringing live ARCA RE/MAX Series programming to Speed Channel," Speed Channel president Jim Liberatore said. "We feel the combination of superspeedways and short tracks will not only be attractive to race fans nationwide, but present opportunities that will benefit Speed Channel as well as the RE/MAX Series. From Daytona to the dirt, it's going to be interesting for sure."

Speed Channel will begin its live coverage of the ARCA series on Feb. 10 with the 39th annual Daytona ARCA 200. The Daytona race will be followed by live broadcasts of the April 28 event at Salem Speedway, the Kentucky Speedway on May 11, Michigan International Speedway on June 15, South Boston Speedway on July 3, Berlin Raceway on July 20 and Winchester Speedway on Aug. 31.

Once of ARCA’s crown jewels, the Southern Illinois 100 on the DuQuoin, Ill., fairgrounds' dirt-mile, will highlight the end-of-the-season live events. The remainder of the live schedule has the Sept. 7 Chicagoland Speedway event on Speed Channel as well as the final short-track race of the season at Salem Speedway on Sept. 15.

"This is, without question, a great opportunity for not only the ARCA RE/MAX Series, but for the teams and sponsors alike," ARCA president Ron Drager explained. "To double the number of live events from five in 2001 to 10 in 2002 is a huge leap forward."

Five races in 2002 will be shown on a tape-delayed basis. Speed Channel will provide same-day coverage of the race at Lowe's Motor Speedway on May 18 while Fox Sports Net the events at Atlanta Motor Speedway, Lowe's Motor Speedway, Pocono Raceway and Michigan International Speedway on a one-week delay basis.

The ARCA RE/MAX series kicks off its season on Feb. 10 at Dayton International Speedway at 11 a.m. (ET).
